The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all prospective parliamentary aspirants, along with their agents and supporters, to halt all forms of campaign activities across the country with immediate effect.

The directive comes following numerous complaints received by the party headquarters regarding early campaign activities by members seeking to contest parliamentary seats in various constituencies.

In an official statement issued from the party headquarters, the NPP described such premature actions as a violation of internal party governance.

“Such conduct is contrary to the Party’s regulations and Code of Conduct. It creates an uneven playing field and undermines the unity and discipline on which the Party’s success depends,” the statement signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, noted.

The party made it clear that the ban covers a wide range of promotional efforts, including the mounting of posters, billboards, banners, and other branded materials, as well as the distribution of items or inducements to delegates and party members. Prospective aspirants have also been instructed to refrain from organising rallies, polling station executive meetings, or tours intended to solicit support, alongside paid media and social media advertising.

Furthermore, party officials across all structures have been warned against endorsing or facilitating premature campaigning.

“Party officers at the polling station, Electoral area, constituency, Region and National levels, Tescon, are forbidden entirely from posting any parliamentary aspirant on any social media platform (Facebook, X, Instagram etc. ) or enabling such pre-mature Parliamentary aspirants’ activities,” Mr Frimpong stated.

The General Secretary cautioned that strict sanctions await anyone who disregards the directive, warning that non-compliance could jeopardise an aspirant’s eligibility to contest in the upcoming primaries.

“Any person who fails to comply will be dealt with in accordance with the Party’s disciplinary procedures, which may affect their eligibility to contest,” the statement added.

The NPP leadership assured party faithful that an official timetable and comprehensive guidelines for the parliamentary selection processes will be announced in due course, calling on constituency and regional executives to enforce strict compliance within their respective jurisdictions.
