The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended party communicator Daniel Nortey from taking part in all media appearances and public engagements on its behalf, following comments he made regarding allegations of sexual abuse against the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
The decision, which takes immediate effect, was announced in an official release signed by the party’s National Communication Bureau.
According to the party leadership, its attention was drawn to remarks made by Mr Nortey during a televised panel discussion on the ongoing sexual misconduct scandal involving the school administrator. The party expressed dissatisfaction with the nature of his commentary, describing the remarks as deeply concerning and distasteful.
“The Party reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on sexual abuse and all forms of sexual exploitation, particularly where the safety, dignity and welfare of children are concerned. We condemn remarks that trivialise such allegations or undermine the seriousness with which they must be treated,” the statement read.
Although the party acknowledged receiving an unreserved apology from Mr Nortey concerning his commentary, it maintained that responsible public engagement remains paramount when addressing sensitive national issues.
“Public commentary on matters involving allegations of sexual abuse must be guided by responsibility, sensitivity and respect for due process. Such matters must not be treated lightly or reduced to partisan debate,” the party emphasised.
The NDC added that it remains committed to advocating for the protection of women and children, upholding accountability, and ensuring that all allegations of sexual abuse are addressed strictly in accordance with the law.
Mr Nortey remains barred from representing the party in the media until further notice.
