The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has held broad stakeholder engagements with cocoa farmers and operational staff across the Oti and Volta regions to sensitise them on the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026 (Act 1182), the rationale behind the 2026/2027 producer price announcement, and ongoing sector reforms.

The initiative forms part of an intensive nationwide campaign launched three weeks ago to bridge communication between regulators and frontline actors in the cocoa value chain. In the two regions, interactive sessions were convened in major cocoa-growing hubs, including Lolobi, Dodi Papase, and Jasikan.

Addressing the gatherings, officials highlighted key legislative and structural reforms designed to modernise the cocoa industry, boost national production, and safeguard the economic welfare of farmers.

A major focus of the discussions was the persistent challenge of cocoa smuggling along border communities. Farmers and officers examined practical measures to counter illicit trade, placing emphasis on the strategic deployment of dedicated Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs). Stakeholders noted that ensuring LBCs purchase cocoa promptly from farming communities would eliminate logistical bottlenecks and significantly deter smuggling activities in the border districts.

COCOBOD reaffirmed its determination to maintain direct dialogue with farmers, reiterating that regular field engagements remain vital to securing farmer livelihoods and driving the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.
