The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has quashed reports alleging plans to replace its Minority leadership in Parliament, fronted by Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Addressing journalists at the party’s national headquarters, Justin Frimpong Kodua Esq., General Secretary of the NPP, clarified that no discussions regarding a leadership shuffle have taken place within the party’s executive ranks.
“There is a rumor going round that the party may want to change the leadership in Parliament. Let me state it categorically, the party has never had any meeting, the party has never thought about even deliberating to change the leadership in Parliament. We have not,” he declared.
Mr Kodua pointed fingers at individuals spreading the claims, accusing them of attempting to spark division within the parliamentary group.
“Those who are busily peddling lies and trying to create this chaos or confusion among the leadership in Parliament and the mighty Minority caucus, they will not succeed,” he remarked.
Highlighting the stance of the national executive committee, the General Secretary affirmed complete backing for Afenyo-Markin and his frontbench team, noting that their performance in Parliament has met expectations.
“The leadership of our party, especially we the elected officers, chaired by Chairman, are very happy, we are overwhelmingly satisfied with the work being done by the leadership in Parliament led by Osahen Afenyo-Markin and we shall continue to give them that support that they need to make sure that together with our flag bearer and the party we win the elections in 2028.”
He called on party members and the general public to disregard the speculation.
“Please kindly discard any notion by anyone who is trying to create needless confusion within the ranks of our minority group in Parliament. We are happy with the work that they are doing in Parliament and we shall continue to support them. There is no meeting, there is no attempt to change the leadership in Parliament, so kindly take note,” he added.
