The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Johnson Pandit Asiama, has called on stakeholders within the financial ecosystem to transition from dialogue to decisive action in driving financial inclusion and improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians.

Speaking at the Financial Health Leadership Roundtable held at Bank Square on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, Dr Asiama welcomed Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health, highlighting the crucial need to deepen financial wellness across the country.

In his keynote address, the Governor observed that Ghana has firmly established itself as one of Africa’s leading digital finance markets. He attributed this milestone to the rapid growth of mobile money, interoperable payment infrastructure, and vibrant fintech innovations that have successfully brought banking services to millions of previously unbanked citizens.

However, Dr Asiama emphasized that mere access to financial services is no longer enough.

He stated that financial inclusion must translate into tangible financial health for households and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) through structured savings, insurance coverage, pension schemes, investment opportunities, robust financial literacy, and access to productive, responsible credit.

Underscoring MSMEs as the backbone of Ghana’s economy, the central bank chief called for a strategic leverage of technology, data, and innovation to bridge the existing financing gap.

He urged financial institutions to address information asymmetries and extend credit on fair, sustainable terms to viable businesses, particularly women entrepreneurs and smallholder farmers.

Dr Asiama concluded his address by urging all participants to commit to concrete action plans, ensuring that the country’s digital financial revolution delivers lasting economic resilience for every Ghanaian.
