Police arrest three suspected outlaw bikers in Kumasi over midnight attacks

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested three suspected members of an outlaw motorcycle gang accused of terrorising residents across the Breman-Kronum-Suame enclave.

The suspects—Sharif Mahmud, 23, Abdallah Karim, 25, and James Alena, 25—were apprehended during a late-night police operation in Suame following sustained surveillance by the regional command.

According to a press statement issued on 4th November 2026 by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Ashanti Region, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, the gang has been engaging in illegal midnight racing, taking over public roads, and attacking unsuspecting passersby.

“The gang is alleged to have been engaging in illegal midnight motorcycle racing by taking over public roads and attacking and robbing unsuspecting passersby, thereby creating fear and insecurity among residents in the area,” Superintendent Ahianyo stated.

He explained that the command had been tracking the group’s movements as part of efforts to apprehend members who had previously evaded arrest.

“However, at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, 1st November 2026, a police team intercepted the gang at Suame in Kumasi. The operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects, identified as Sharif Mahmud, aged 23, Abdallah Karim, aged 25, and James Alena, aged 25, while several other members managed to escape,” he added.

The police revealed that the three suspects have since been granted police inquiry bail and will be arraigned before court once normal proceedings resume following the ongoing strike by the Judicial Service Association of Ghana (JUSAG).

Superintendent Ahianyo assured the public of the police service’s resolve to restore order in the affected communities, noting that investigations remain active to track down the remaining gang members.

“The Ashanti Regional Police Command assures the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order and urges residents to volunteer credible information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the fleeing suspects,” he said.
