Okraku Mantey saw himself as lord over others after being appointed deputy minister – KOD

Kofi-Okyere-Darko-KOD

Presidential Advisor on Diasporan Affairs Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) has asked former Deputy Minister of Creative Arts Mark Okraku Mantey not to regard himself as superior to the Ghanaian people.

He noted that politicians or appointees who get to work in government should see their job as a service and not an opportunity to lord over those who elected their parties into office.

KOD, as he affectionately called himself, stated that this is one of the areas that politicians have failed because the majority of them come into office with an agenda to lord over the people.

“We are here to serve.” My office is the location where I have been assigned to serve. Mark Okraku Mantey, a former appointee, was asked to serve, but he saw himself as a lord. When appointed to serve, you should not consider yourself superior to those you are serving or those who voted for you. “That is what some of our politicians fail to recognise.”

He said he has come from a family of politicians who were appointed to serve, including his father, who is a director of prisons, and his mother, a founding member of the 31st December Women’s Movement.

KOD was on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM in the United Kingdom, speaking with Dr Ren via Zoom.

“My father was the director of prisons. I moved up a notch because I am a director at the presidency. However, I cannot use my position to lord over others or ignore my creative industry colleagues. I cannot see myself as more important than my colleagues. When appointed to government, you cannot rule over others because you have a privilege. The fact that you have police protecting you and opening doors for you does not imply that you are vastly superior to Ghanaian voters. They (police) are only making your life easier in order to serve the people.

I have been advised not to respond to Mark Okraku Mantey, so I will not make any comment. But I want to stress that the reason Mark Okraku is talking is that when he was appointed to serve, he saw himself as a lord. He didn’t see himself as a servant, and by God’s grace some of us are here now, and we will serve the people. We won’t lord over people. We will serve the people,’’ he added.
