Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister for Defence, officially inaugurated a new governing board for the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC) on Monday, July 7.

The move underscores the government’s commitment to building a robust defence manufacturing base, a key component of its ambitious 24-hour economy agenda.

During the ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Boamah specifically tasked the new board, chaired by Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi, with transforming DIHOC.

Their mission: to evolve the company into a vital industrial hub that will serve Ghana’s defence needs and contribute significantly to national development.

This strategic appointment highlights the government’s resolve to strengthen local production capabilities within the defence sector, aiming for greater self-reliance and economic growth.

“This is not just another ceremony. It is a milestone moment. DIHOC must move from potential to productivity—from vision to visible outcomes,” the Minister asserted.

Dr. Boamah described DIHOC as a sovereign industrial instrument, a concept first envisioned by the late President John Evans Atta Mills and later significantly strengthened by President John Dramani Mahama.

President Mahama has, in fact, positioned the company as central to several of his flagship initiatives, he said.

The Minister urged DIHOC’s board to harness the company’s full potential, aiming to satisfy both Ghana’s defense requirements and wider socio-economic objectives.

One major highlight of his remarks was the announcement of a proposed Defence

Industrial Complex (DIC), which would be developed with DIHOC at its core.

This DIC is expected to achieve crucial strategic goals, including operational independence, emergency readiness, peacekeeping support, economic diversification, and job creation.

Dr Boamah further admonished the board to collaborate with other ministries and uphold the highest standards of governance, noting:

“You are stewards of an institution that holds the promise of industrialising our defence, empowering our people, creating jobs, and protecting our future.”

New DIHOC board Chairman, Ernest Brogya Genfi on behalf of the Board Members pledged high standards, integrity, and accountability
