The Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting peace, security, and advocacy against hate speech, politics of insults, and vilification, has urged the Inspector General of Police, Christina Tetteh Yehonu, to restore order within the police force and address the surge in missing persons cases that result in fatalities.
Madam Nyonkopa Daniels admitted that the IGP, while at the Greater Accra Regional Command, was effective and efficient and appealed to him to deploy that level of effectiveness in dealing with the situation.
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, she stated that Ghanaians are beginning to experience fear and panic over the rate at which missing persons are later found dead, a situation she described as unfortunate.
She asked the IGP to roll out measures aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the people.
Madam Daniels said she has verbally received several calls regarding this issue, and it was important for the police service to bring those behind these crimes to book.
“The cases of missing persons who are later found dead are alarming. The security agencies, especially the Ghana Police Service, must rise up and deal with it. In any serious country, the police would be tasked with dealing with the situation. Ghanaians are worried and looking forward to the police immediately dealing with the situation. Nobody hates the IGP, but it is in the interest of the state that we are talking about these issues. We have seen people being killed and their bodies dumped across the country.
I am calling on the IGP to bring to bear his efficiency when he was at the Accra Regional Police Command. He should be proactive. I think he has relaxed. I know he is up to the task, and so he should take action in addressing these concerns. He should encourage his men and deploy them to deal with these issues,” she added.
