A head-on collision between a commercial passenger vehicle and an articulated truck claimed 12 lives and left two others injured on Tuesday afternoon along the Kumasi-Techiman highway at Akumadan.
The collision, which occurred opposite the Offinso North District Assembly, involved a Techiman-bound Nissan Caravan and a Shacman trailer traveling toward Kumasi.
First responders from the Techiman Municipal Fire Station arrived at the scene shortly after receiving a distress call at 1:57 p.m.

According to emergency management officials, the impact completely crushed the passenger bus, killing 10 people—four females, five men, and a young boy—instantly.
“The structural damage to the passenger vehicle was catastrophic,” reported Station Officer Two Osei Theophilus, who led the Ghana National Fire Service rescue crew.
“Our immediate priority upon arrival was extracting the survivors from the wreckage and securing the scene to prevent secondary incidents.”

Four initial survivors from the bus were rushed by emergency services to the Nkenkansu Government Hospital. Medical staff confirmed that two female victims later succumbed to their injuries, raising the final death toll to 12.
The remaining two survivors, both male, are currently receiving treatment; one has been transferred to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital in critical condition, while the other remains stable at Nkenkansu.

The two occupants of the Shacman trailer escaped the crash without injury.Personnel from the Ghana Police Service took custody of the bodies at the scene, transferring them to the Nkenkansu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and formal identification.
Regional authorities are utilizing the incident to issue a sharp reminder to commercial motorists about highway safety standards.

“We are urging all motorists to exercise extra caution on major corridors and to strictly observe basic road safety regulations,” the Bono East Regional Public Relations Office stated in a follow-up brief.

“Preventing these fatal crashes requires absolute vigilance from every driver on the road.”
While rescue crews successfully recovered personal effects from the debris, the precise cause of the collision remains undetermined.
A joint investigation by the regional traffic police and fire service investigators is underway to establish the factors leading to the crash.
