Security analyst Andrews Asiedu Tetteh has advised the government to intensify security in all areas where factions involved in the ongoing Bawku conflict reside.
He specifically mentioned Konkomba at Old Fadama in the Greater Accra Region and Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The analyst warned that the conflict’s spillover, which has already seen the Kusase Chief killed in Kumasi and another individual also killed, could worsen.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that the country might witness unprecedented levels of spillover if the government doesn’t intensify security in areas where Kusases and Mamprusis are residing.
“The spillovers have already started across the country. The Kusase Chief in Kumasi was killed recently. Students are being killed anyhow. The government must intensify security in Konkomba [area] in Accra, Kumasi, and all other areas where citizens from the two factions are residing. The country’s security should not only concentrate on Bawku. While a curfew can resolve conflicts to an extent, it is not the complete solution to these conflicts.”
He reiterated that the government lacks the willingness to do everything possible to deal with the Bawku crisis, stating that the deployment of soldiers after the issues escalated with spillovers was too late.
Andrews Asiedu Tetteh added that there are “conflictpreneurs” who are benefiting from the crisis, making the fight against it extremely difficult.
