The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has refuted reports claiming it provided a GH¢12 million sponsorship package to the Ghana national football team.

The denial was contained in a public notice issued by the Board.

It was in response to the allegation that funds earmarked for cocoa farmers were redirected to support the national team.

The specific allegation was made by the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Ekow Vincent Assafuah.

COCOBOD described it as “false, misleading, and without any factual basis.

The notice indicated that COCOBOD has not financed the Black Stars in any form and has not reallocated money intended for cocoa farmers for football-related activities.

“At no point has COCOBOD diverted funds meant for farmer payments to support the Black Stars,” the statement said.

According to the board, the primary focus remains the welfare of cocoa farmers while reiterating its commitment to timely payments for cocoa purchases, the supply of farm inputs, extension services, and sustained investment in the cocoa industry.

It has therefore admonished the Ghanaian public to disregard the circulating claims and rely only on its official communication platforms for verified information.
