The Member of Parliament for Odododiodioo has expressed commendation to President John Mahama for his astute management of Ghana’s economy.
During the State of the Nation Address debate, Hon. Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie stated that President Mahama’s leadership has yielded significant benefits, including low inflation at 3.5% and enhanced living standards.
He slammed the previous government’s priorities, focusing on cocoa-related issues, and highlighted an alleged missing amount of 18 billion Ghana cedis.
“If they had managed the economy this well, this amount could have supported cocoa farmers,” he said. “What we’re doing today is managing the mess they created.”
He spoke about President Mahama’s Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation policy, aimed at building Ghana’s economic resilience.
“The purpose is to accumulate 15 months of import cover by 2028, shielding Ghana from external shocks,” he explained.
He contrasted the former government’s response to COVID-19 with Mahama’s proactive approach.
“They borrowed everywhere, but we’re building Ghana’s base to manage external shocks without affecting Ghanaians badly.”
He commended the president, indicating that under his watch, “Six new regional hospitals are being built, the large general hospital is underway, and Mahama Care is saving lives.” He questioned the NPP government’s inaction on NCDs: “If they knew NCDs were this bad, what did they do?”
Mr Ashie concluded: “Mahama Care is here to stay. We’ll develop this…”
