An Accra Circuit Court has remanded two men accused of carrying out a robbery at a jewellery shop in Westlands, near Haatso, stealing gold items valued at GH¢2 million.

The accused, Musa Abdul Aziz Mamoud, also known as Justin Martin, 34, a stock trader, and Donatus Kwame Donkor, 37, a carpenter, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and robbery. Mamoud faces additional counts of causing unlawful damage and money laundering.

Prosecutors said that the two meticulously planned the attack at Berma Jewellery Shop on 26 April 2025. Mamoud is said to have disguised himself in a pullover, gloves and a mask before riding a motorbike to the scene, while Donkor allegedly played a supporting role.

According to the prosecution, Donkor engaged the security guard at the entrance, creating the opportunity for Mamoud to enter the shop. Mamoud allegedly overpowered the guard and sprayed pepper into his eyes before subjecting a shop attendant to the same attack, leaving both incapacitated.

Mamoud then allegedly made off with gold chains, pendants, earrings and bracelets valued at GH¢2 million, placing them in a bag before fleeing the scene on the motorbike, with Donkor acting as a lookout.

Investigations began after the complainant, a trader based in Dome, petitioned the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Acting on intelligence, police arrested Mamoud on 24 March 2026 at his residence in Anyaa Market.

A search of his home reportedly uncovered items believed to have been used in the robbery, including masks, a hammer, pepper spray, a toy gun and a crash helmet, as well as assorted jewellery, a gold detector and a weighing scale.

Donkor was subsequently arrested on 26 March 2026 at his residence in Osu, where police also retrieved the motorbike allegedly used in the heist.

Prosecutors further revealed that Mamoud had allegedly sold part of the stolen items to an unidentified buyer and used some of the proceeds to purchase a Toyota FJ Cruiser prior to his arrest.

The court has directed the prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Haligah, to file witness statements and disclosures ahead of the next hearing, scheduled for 13 April 2026, as investigations continue.
