​Ghanaian journalist Prince Kwame Tamakloe named Best Online Journalist in Africa and Asia for report on infertility stigma

Rainbow Radio’s Prince Kwame Tamakloe has been crowned the Overall Best Online Journalist at this year’s Merck Foundation Media Recognition More Than a Mother Award for his story on infertility stigma towards women. His outstanding story highlighting the painful stigma surrounding infertility among women in Northern Ghana.

The award-winning report highlighted the painful experiences of women in Northern Ghana who face severe stigma and discrimination because they are unable to conceive.

In the story, some women recounted how they were labelled as witches and falsely accused of “eating their own babies” simply because they could not bear children. The report exposed the emotional abuse, social exclusion, and psychological trauma many women silently endure due to infertility.

The story was adjudged the best among thousands of entries submitted by journalists across Africa and Asia, marking a major achievement for Ghanaian journalism and human-interest reporting.

Through powerful storytelling and firsthand accounts, Prince Kwame Tamakloe brought attention to harmful cultural misconceptions surrounding infertility and emphasised the urgent need for awareness, education, empathy, and support for affected women.

The recognition by the highlights the important role of the media in addressing sensitive social and health issues while amplifying the voices of vulnerable and marginalised people in society.

The award also represents another significant milestone for Ghana’s media industry, with many commending the journalist for using storytelling as a tool for advocacy and social change.
