The Ghanaian government has greenlit GH¢68 million to finalize the second phase of the Veterinary Medicine Complex at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

This update was shared by Professor Benjamin Emikpe, the Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine, during the institution’s 11th White Coat Ceremony, an event celebrating a new group of students advancing into their practical clinical training.

Initiated in 2014 through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), the construction has been at a standstill for almost ten years because of budget constraints.

Professor Emikpe highlighted this funding approval as a major breakthrough for local veterinary schooling, instruction, and research. He explained that finishing the structure will boost the university’s ability to educate upcoming specialists and solidify its status as a premier veterinary hub in the region.

“Let me pause here and reiterate that this wouldn’t have been possible without the office of the Vice-Chancellor and the Provost. GH¢68 million has been approved for the completion of Phase II of the school’s Veterinary Medicine Complex,” he said.

The Dean expressed confidence that the fully realized complex will propel the department into the upper echelon of West African veterinary academies.

Once finished, the long-awaited project will offer contemporary resources and upgraded educational environments for both academics and students, alongside backing sophisticated clinical studies.
