The High Court has dismissed a submission of no case filed by legal counsel representing the accused in the high-profile Skytrain corruption trial.
In the matter of the Republic versus Solomon Asamoah and Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the defence had petitioned the court to acquit and discharge the accused individuals following the conclusion of the prosecution’s presentation.
The defence argued that the state had failed to establish a sufficient legal case to warrant further trial proceedings.
However, presiding over the court, the judge rejected the application, ruling that the state had successfully discharged its burden of proof.
The court determined that the prosecution had presented enough prima facie evidence to establish that a case exists for the accused persons to answer.
Consequently, the court has ordered the accused individuals to open their defence if they intend to challenge the state’s evidence as the trial proceeds.
