President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to unite, protect the country’s peace, and work collectively towards national progress, describing faith and unity as the definitive pillars of the nation’s identity.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page to mark the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, Mr Mahama emphasised that national reflection is an essential prerequisite for achieving enduring progress. He noted that the occasion was not a sign that Ghana’s journey was complete, but rather a necessary moment of pause for a nation striving for long-term success.
”Any nation seeking lasting greatness must occasionally stop,” the former president stated. “We stop to remember, to give thanks, to reflect, and to renew our covenant with the Almighty God and with one another.”
Reflecting on Ghana’s historical resilience, Mr Mahama observed that the country has consistently relied on spiritual guidance to navigate various seasons of its development.
He noted that throughout history, whenever the nation faced either triumph or trial, citizens instinctively turned to God, seeking guidance during periods of uncertainty, strength during adversity, and expressing gratitude in times of abundance.
He urged citizens to transcend political, ethnic, and religious divisions, especially during national milestones that require a collective focus on the country’s future. He stressed that the identity of the Ghanaian people is rooted in a shared faith and mutual responsibility.
”Today, therefore, we gather not as members of different political parties, ethnic groups, or religious denominations, but as one people,” Mr Mahama wrote, adding that Ghanaians must acknowledge with grateful hearts that every blessing enjoyed ultimately comes from the Almighty.
He rallied the populace to safeguard the stability of the country and collaborate on initiatives that drive national development.
“Let us continue to stand united, guard our peace, and work together for the progress of our motherland,” he stated, before offering the traditional prayer for the nation: “May God bless our homeland Ghana, and make our nation great and strong.”

As Ghana paused to reflect and give thanks on the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, we did so not because our journey as a nation is complete, but because any nation seeking lasting greatness must occasionally stop. We stop to remember, to give thanks, to reflect, and to renew our covenant with the Almighty God and with one another.
Throughout our history, whenever our beloved nation faced triumph or trial, we instinctively turned to God. In times of uncertainty, we have sought His guidance; in times of adversity, His strength; and in times of happiness and abundance, His endless blessings.
This enduring faith remains one of the defining pillars of our national identity as Ghanaians.
Today, therefore, we gather not as members of different political parties, ethnic groups, or religious denominations, but as one people. With grateful hearts, we acknowledge that every blessing we enjoy ultimately comes from Him.
Let us continue to stand united, guard our peace, and work together for the progress of our motherland.
May God bless our homeland Ghana, and make our nation great and strong.
