Flood Relief: Lost passports to be replaced within seven days -MoFA

July 3, 2026
ABLAKWA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced an emergency initiative to fast-track the replacement of Ghanaian passports that were lost or destroyed during this week’s catastrophic floods.

The devastating deluge, which swept through several regions across Ghana, caused widespread infrastructural damage, claimed lives, and displaced numerous residents.

In a press release issued on Friday, 3 July 2026, the Ministry expressed profound sympathies to the victims of the disaster.

“The Ministry is aware of the catastrophic consequences including loss of lives and destruction of properties,” the statement read. “We extend our sincere and deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.”

Recognising that many citizens have had their essential travel documents ruined or swept away, authorities have set up a temporary intervention to alleviate further distress.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to implement an expedited replacement of lost and damaged Ghanaian passports as a result of the floods,” the sector confirmed.

To facilitate a seamless recovery process, the Ministry has established a dedicated helpline. Affected individuals are requested to report their missing or ruined passports by calling 055 936 8563.

The hotlines will remain active for a two-week window, opening on Friday, 3 July and closing on Friday, 17 July 2026.

When contacting the helpline, applicants must provide the following details exactly as they appeared on their original documents:

  • Full Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • A current contact telephone number

In an ambitious bid to minimise travel disruptions for citizens, the Ministry has pledged a rapid turnaround time for the reissue of these documents, stating:

“We intend to replace all lost and damaged passports within a week.”

The government has reiterated its commitment to broader relief and rehabilitation efforts across the country, concluding that the Ministry “stands in solidarity with all affected persons during this difficult period and remains committed to playing its role in supporting government’s recovery efforts.”
