The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, Dr Michael Mensah, has affirmed that the government remains fully committed to transforming the lives of citizens, with a specific focus on the youth.

He stated that since assuming office, the current administration has rolled out several initiatives aimed at providing sustainable job opportunities for young people across the country, a drive from which his municipality has greatly benefited.

According to him, youth within the area have secured employment through various local interventions, including municipal beautification exercises and ongoing road projects.

He further noted that additional employment avenues have been created in the sanitation sector, among other key areas.

Speaking on the Weekend Show on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the MCE explained to host Eddie Ray that the government has designed numerous other opportunities to support the younger demographic.

He highlighted the Adwumawura Programme, a Government of Ghana flagship initiative implemented by the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).

The scheme is designed to empower young Ghanaian entrepreneurs aged 18 to 40 to start, sustain, and scale their businesses across all sectors of the economy.

He also pointed out the Student Entrepreneurship Initiative (SEED) under the NEIP, which is a dedicated programme tailored for tertiary students across Ghana’s universities, technical universities, and vocational institutions.

This initiative nurtures the next generation of student entrepreneurs by providing entrepreneurship training, workshops, access to mentors, industry experts, business plan development support, networking opportunities, and critical seed funding for student business ideas.

He described these initiatives as excellent pathways, especially for individuals who want to acquire practical skills and establish their own businesses after training.

Turning his attention to digital literacy, the MCE mentioned the One Million Coders programme, which was launched a few months ago to offer specialised training in coding to young people.

He noted that the One Million Coders initiative is transforming Ghana’s digital future by empowering a new generation of tech innovators and leaders, with the ultimate goal of equipping one million Ghanaians with cutting-edge digital skills.

Beneficiaries of this programme gain access to world-class training modules, mentorship from industry experts, and a vibrant community of ambitious innovators ready to drive the nation’s technological advancement and economic growth.

Consequently, Michael Mensah encouraged the youth of Ghana to take full advantage of these initiatives, particularly those eager to learn a trade. He stressed that individuals who complete the skills training are provided with essential tools, equipment, and start-up kits to help them establish themselves successfully.

The MCE emphasised that Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) have not been left behind in these developmental efforts.

Depending on their specific needs, PWDs have been supported with items such as laptops, deep freezers, industrial knitting machines, ovens, cylinders, and polytanks.

He added that PWDs are also given comprehensive training in different skill sets alongside start-up kits to launch their own enterprises.

Touching on agricultural interventions, he stated that under the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative, the municipality received approximately 4,000 birds, which were successfully distributed to local applicants who had requested them.
