Forty-one additional Ghanaian nationals stranded in South Africa following xenophobic attacks arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.
The returnees were received on arrival by Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, Head of the Delivery Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside directors from the ministry and key state officials.
Representatives from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Health Service, Port Health Authority, Ghana Red Cross Society, and the Ghana Armed Forces were on site to assist with processing and immediate care.
Ambassador Ntrakwa welcomed the evacuees back home and reassured them of the government’s commitment to their safety, welfare, and smooth reintegration into society.
He urged the returnees to remain optimistic and apply their skills and experiences towards rebuilding their lives and supporting national development.
He further noted that inter-agency measures have been put in place to help the returnees adjust and resettle smoothly.
Expressing gratitude, the evacuees thanked the government for prioritising their safety and ensuring their swift evacuation from South Africa.
