Officers from the Special Operations Office of the Inspector General of Police have apprehended a 40-year-old farmer at the VIP Bus Terminal located at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra for alleged possession of 91 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect, identified as Roger Borbobli, was picked up on Wednesday, 29th October 2026, after alert transport terminal attendants, commonly known as loading boys, detected a pungent odour emitting from three heavy suitcases he was carrying and alerted the authorities.
A police tactical team dispatched to the scene searched the luggage and uncovered the 91 parcels, which the suspect estimated to have a street value of GH¢33,600.
Preliminary interrogation by investigators revealed that Borbobli hails from Sovie Kudzra, near Kpando in the Volta Region. Although he confessed to being an Indian hemp farmer, he claimed he procured the specific consignment from another farmer in his village known only as Benjamin.
The seized substances are expected to be transferred to the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory for chemical analysis to confirm their composition.
Meanwhile, Borbobli remains in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations and will be processed for court in due course.
