Detectives from the Techiman Divisional Police Command have taken three individuals into custody following the gruesome murder of twenty-three-year-old Agartha Afia Takyiwaa, a former footballer for Asante Kotoko Ladies who worked as a commercial tricycle operator.
The deceased was reportedly transporting two passengers to Adum-Afrancho within the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipality of the Ashanti Region when the journey turned fatal.
A violent struggle ensued along the stretch as the suspects attempted to snatch the commercial tricycle, locally known as a Pragya.
The assailants stabbed Takyiwaa multiple times during the scuffle, leaving her to die in a pool of blood before fleeing the scene with the stolen vehicle towards Techiman in the Bono East Region.
Their run from the law came to an abrupt end at a police checkpoint, where alert officers intercepted the vehicle and apprehended two male suspects alongside a female accomplice. The suspects have since been handed over to the Trede District Police Command to assist with ongoing criminal investigations.
The tragic incident has thrown the local community and the family of the deceased into deep mourning. Speaking to Rainbow Radio’s flagship news bulletin, Nyankonton Mu Nsem, the father of the deceased, Nana Kwaku Nimrah, recounted the agony of losing his young daughter under such brutal circumstances.
Her grief-stricken mother, Akosua Brigo, appealed to the Ghana Police Service and the judicial system to ensure swift justice is served, demanding that all individuals involved in her daughter’s murder face the full rigours of the law.
