The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has issued a final notice to business owners across Ghana, warning that all unrenewed business names will be officially cancelled and struck off the register on 17th January 2027.
In an official statement issued by the Registrar of Companies, the regulatory body drawn attention to widespread non-compliance regarding annual renewals, reminding sole proprietorships and legal entities of their legal obligation to maintain active registration.
The Office noted that all registered business names are required to be renewed annually upon the expiry of their registration, observing that a significant number of business operators have failed to comply with the statutory requirement.
“NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that all business names which are not renewed on or before 17th January, 2027 shall be deemed lapsed and shall accordingly be removed from the Register maintained by the Office,” the statement read.

The Registrar warned of strict legal consequences for non-compliant entities, highlighting that unregistered or lapsed entities will lose their legal standing immediately upon removal.
“Upon removal, such business names shall cease to exist, and any person continuing to trade under a cancelled business name shall do so in breach of the law and be liable to the applicable sanctions,” the statement emphasized.
To prevent cancellation, business owners whose renewals are due or expired have been advised to renew their business names at any ORC office nationwide or via the short code *222#, clear all outstanding renewal fees, and update any changes in their business particulars, such as physical addresses or nature of business.
The statement further indicated that business owners who no longer intend to operate under their registered names may formally notify the Registrar in writing to have their names removed from the register.
Reaffirming its mandate, the ORC stated that it remains committed to ensuring full compliance with Ghana’s corporate regulatory framework and promoting high standards of corporate governance and business transparency across the country.
