National Communication Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has clarified that the new policy “Fa ninyinaa” is for only Ghanaian first-year students in tertiary institutions.
He said the policy will not replace the “kyemupe” policy but will rather run side by side with the latest policy.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced that it has accepted for incorporation in the Peoples’ Manifesto, the recommendation of the Education Policy Group of the party that the next NDC government absorbs the FULL school fees of Ghanaian students who will be admitted to tertiary institutions in the 2020/2021 academic year.
This policy is an enhancement of the party’s commitment in the People’s Manifesto to absorb 50% of the school fees of all tertiary students for the 2020/2021 academic year through the “KYEMUPE” policy, which will now apply to only continuing students in tertiary institutions in the country.
The Flagbearer of the Party, H.E John Dramani Mahama will in due course, throw more light on this enhanced package for Ghanaian students who be admitted to tertiary institutions next year dubbed, “FA NINYINAA”.
Explaining further, Sammy Gyamfi noted that the new policy is not replacing the old one captured in the manifesto.
He added: “The special justification for “Fa Ninyinaa” is that, parents of first year students usually incur more cost on acquiring accommodation, paying admission fees, and procuring other materials for their wards, than continuing students.”
“The common overarching justification for the two policies is the negative impact of COVID-19 on incomes and livelihoods,” he justified reasons for the two policies.
