Chairman of BA United, Kwame Baah Akyereko has disclosed on Rainbow Sports that he would blame referee Maxwell Hansen for the hooliganism that marred the match between his team and Real Tamale United [RTU].
According to him, the referee must be blamed for the incident because of poor officiating.
On Sunday, supporters of B. A United were captured on tape assaulting a referee for awarding a penalty against them.
B.A United hosted Division One League Zone One Leaders Real Tamale United [RTU] at the Coronation Park in Sunyani.
However, the game ended prematurely as centre referee Maxwell Hansen was seen in a video running for his life after being chased by fans of the home team.
Reacting to the issue, Kwame Baah Akyereko noted that although the situation was not the best, the referee must blame himself for the incident.
He revealed 30 military officers had to join the Police and other security officials to bring the situation under control.
He posited that referees must be responsible and ensure that they ethically discharge their work.
He added referees should know that their decisions should not lead to any form of violence or agitation.
The teams that win matches are to do so on fairgrounds and not through dubious means and with the assistance of referees, he stated.
“We brought in thirty police men, twenty military men, and twenty prison officers. Later the referee called for reinforcement and we added thirty military men, so in all, there was 100 security personnel on the pitch”, Kwame Baah Akyereko explained.
He added that there was too much tension in the game in the sense that the game was between two regions (Bono and Northern).
