Female players travelling abroad for greener pastures due to poor remuneration- Coach

September 6, 2022

Coach Joe Adarkwa of Ghana Women’s League side Ampem Darkoa has stated that the Ghana Women’s League is underfunded and that players will continue to leave the country in search of greener pastures elsewhere.

This comes after Ghana women’s League champions, Ampem Darkoa was thrashed by Nigerian side Bayelsa Queens 3-0 to win the WAFU B zonal qualifier for the final stage of the 2022 CAF Women’s Championship League.

The coach stated on Rainbow Sports, “Ghana Women’s League is lacking funds, and players do not receive good salaries, so how do you prevent a player from moving to other developing countries to play and receive good salaries?”

“Our priority right now is to organize the team for the upcoming season, but if any player receives a good offer from outside, we will investigate it and let the player go because they don’t get anything from playing in Ghana. Their lives are important, and they require adequate compensation to support their families.”

“Let’s be truthful to ourselves; it is only an allowance these ladies are receiving in various female clubs in Ghana. Even some of our male clubs are finding it difficult to pay their players good salaries.”

Ampem Darkoa Ladies won the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup last season.
