Head of Communication for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), in Okaikoi Central Mr. Patrick Awuku, has opined that Ghanaians must commend President Akufo-Addo for the bold step taken to invest in the health infrastructure through the agenda 111.
He stated that this is a major investment that has never been seen before in the history of this country and as such, he deserves commendation.
The government has secured US$100 million start-up fund through the Ghana Investment Infrastructure Fund (GIIF) for the construction of 111 new hospitals across the country.
The President is expected to perform the ground-breaking ceremony on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Trede in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.
According to Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the government had secured sites and land titles for 88 out of the 101 district hospitals and each unit would cost US$17 million, covering 15 acres.
Each hospital is expected to be completed within 12 months, starting from the point of commencement.
The Agenda 111 project includes 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals in the newly created regions, two specialised hospitals in the middle and northern belts, as well as a regional hospital in the Western Region and renovation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
Mr. Awuku described the initiative as historic, adding, it would enhance healthcare delivery in the country.
He said there are communities in the country where access to healthcare is difficult, and the completion of the new hospitals would afford the people without hospitals to access healthcare.
He argued that the NPP is the only party that understands healthcare and has over the years invested in the sector.
He was speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm.
