Entertainment critic NYB has opined that presenters and DJs must stop demanding payola from upcoming artistes if they are not prepared to play their tracks.
To him, it would rather be prudent for presenters and DJs to play the songs before taking payola but should not be the determining factor.
He, however, posited that if the artiste out of his own will give the presenter a token, that is fine.
He was contributing to a discussion on Rainbow Entertainment on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
He explained that if an artiste wants you to play his or her songs consistently and would to do so on commercial purposes, then it is different.
Some upcoming musicians who called into the show via phone complained bitterly on how some DJs and presenters had taken their money without playing their tracks.
These musicians stated that some of the presenters don’t even treat them with respect.
Reacting to that, it becomes a business transaction when these artistes want their songs to be played on rotation.
Zola on his part added that some of these upcoming artistes are unwilling to learn.
He said if you point out their errors to them, then you are tagged as someone who does not want them succeed.
The host, DJ Slash believes that the relationship between upcoming musicians, DJs and presenters should be mutually beneficial.
In his view, one should not benefit and leave the other behind.
Both parties he insisted must benefit from their relationship.
