Coordinator for the All People’s Congress (APC), Mr. Abdul Rauf has opined that President Akufo-Addo has no legal authority to compel Ghanaians to take the Covid-19 vaccines.
He said even in the advanced countries where Covid-19 have caused devastation, the covid-19 vaccination was not compulsory.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he posited that compelling Ghanaians to take the vaccination is a breach of their fundamental human rights.
He is therefore admonishing Ghanaians to resist the directive, and only take the vaccination at will.
He has also challenged the President to point to any constitutional provision where he is mandated to compel Ghanaians to take the vaccination.
Ghana has made it mandatory for all civil servants, including health workers, security personnel, teachers, among others, to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu in a statement said the decision has become necessary to help prevent the fourth wave.
But the coordinator of APC believes the directive is unlawful and must not be entertained.
He stressed the need for citizens to challenge the directive and ensure it is recersed.
He also claimed the government has not been truthful in the way it has managed the outbreak.
Per the new guidelines, fully vaccinated passengers coming to Ghana must, in addition, be in possession of a negative PCR test of not more than seventy-two (72) hours, and also take a mandatory COVID test upon arrival at the airport.
Children aged five (5) to twelve (12) will not pay for the test. Any passenger, testing positive at the airport, will be kept in isolation, at a designated isolation facility, and a non-Ghanaian will receive treatment at his or her own cost.
”Communications have been duly sent to all airlines flying into Ghana of the imposition of a three thousand, five hundred dollar (US$3,500) fine for each unvaccinated passenger that is allowed to board a flight into the country.
Unvaccinated Ghanaians and residents in Ghana, who departed the country before 14 th December, and who return by 28 th December, will be offered vaccination on arrival at the airport. Further details will be provided by the Ghana Health Service,” President Akufo-Addo said in his 27th address on what measures the government had adopted to manage the outbreak.
