The Minority side on the Health Committee in parliament is demanding the immediate interdiction of the ambulance personnel who allegedly demanded Ghc600 before conveying a patient to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The Minority says the personnel must be interdicted pending the outcome of the investigations into the matter.
The patient is said to have died from complications due to a delay in conveying her to the hospital.
Ranking member on the health committee visiting the husband and the holy child hospital in Fijai where the deceased received treatment before her death, says the health sector must be sanitized of such occurrences.
According to him, the Minority will not leave the matter to rest and will pursue it to its logical conclusion.
Addressing the media, the legislator indicated the matter demands more answers.
He stressed the ambulance driver and the other crew must be interdicted until the matter has been investigated.
He said the Minority believes strongly that something must be done to prevent a further occurrence.
Augustina Awortwe, 31, allegedly died in an ambulance following a cesarean at the Holy Child Catholic Hospital in Fijai.
Her husband was unable to fuel the ambulance to take her to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
The husband John Obiri-Yeboah, had any his wide to the facility to the hospital on January 3 intending to give birth on January 4, 2022.
He stated he left his wife at the hospital and went to his residence in Shama Junction.
Mr. Obiri-Yeboah says he was at Shama Junction when his sister called to say his wife’s condition had deteriorated and they were prepared to transport her to Korle-Bu.
Upon reaching Assorkor Essaman, he stated, “they requested for 600 cedis to buy fuel, and I informed them I didn’t have such an amount on me.”
