Ghanaian media promotes more foreign leagues at the expense of the domestic league- KAA

August 25, 2022

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghana’s media to be more nationalistic in promoting the local league.

The Ghanaian politician expressed regret that the Ghanaian media is devoting more time to promoting foreign leagues at the expense of the local league.

The former sports journalist stated on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm’s Frontline that while we live in a global village and cannot ignore foreign sports, we should also not allow our local league to suffer while the foreign league dominates our media.

He told host Kwabena Agyapong that the local league could do better than what we see today, but that it has improved.

He stated that the younger players are improving, but that the way they promote the foreign league at the expense of local sports is problematic. When you listen to the news today, you will notice that they are promoting more foreign leagues. This is destroying our local league. We need to be more patriotic. The local league should be given more attention.

Football is the national sport, so we must promote the league. The passion of Ghanaians is great, so it must be a deliberate policy from the President to Ghanaians for us to improve the local league,” he added.
