Former General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, believes it is extremely wrong for chiefs and other individuals to follow appointees to their vetting.
The politician running for president of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) believes such acts are improper and should be prohibited.
He explained that, in contrast to our counterparts abroad, vetted appointees do not have people following them to their vetting.
Such acts, he believes, put political appointees under pressure and prevent them from being efficient, effective, and diligent.
Kwamena Agyei Agyepong went on to say that if this happens, everyone will be looking for favours from the appointee if he or she is confirmed.
“Ghanians are overly celebratory.” It is improper for chiefs and others to follow appointees through the vetting process. It is extremely wrong, and it must be stopped immediately. These things put pressure on political appointees, preventing them from being effective and working in the best interests of the state. Stopping this would also ensure transparency, accountability, and a corrupt-free society.
We need a reset, and we need to look ourselves in the eyes and tell ourselves that what is wrong is wrong, and when it is wrong, we need to say it, no matter where we belong. We are first and foremost Ghanaians, and we tell ourselves that what is wrong is wrong.”
