Accra Hearts OF Oak has appointed Serbian Tactician Slavko Matic as the head coach after the sack of coach Samuel Boadu.
Veteran coach JE Sarpong believes that the appointment of the coach will not influence the scoreline of the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup second-leg fixture between Hearts Of Oak and Real Bamako.
“The appointment of the new coach is good, but this will not influence the scoreline in the next fixture against Bamako. Hearts can win but turning the scoreline is the problem. They have done this before, but the question is, do they have the same players today? I take nothing from hearts but overturning a 3-0 scoreline to qualify for the next stage will be difficult”.
In response to whether an expatriate coach will benefit Hearts Of Oak, JE Sarpong stated, “Well, the club knows the pedigree of the coach and would want him to lead the team.” But I know that foreign coaches do not help our local clubs. Aside from ensuring team discipline, they bring nothing to the table. The coach has a lot to do. The morale of Hearts of Oak is extremely low, and there are divisions; if you are a coach and are unable to bring them together, you will fall like Coach Samuel Boadu,” he said in an interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm.
Hearts of Oak will face Real Bamako of Mali in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup in Accra on Sunday, hoping to avenge the humiliating 3-0 loss in the first leg in Mali.
