The Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah has stated that the government will pay for the property destroyed at the Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational School at Asokore in the Ashanti Region.
The Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational School at Asokore in the Ashanti Region has been closed down following students’ vandalism.
About four government vehicles, including a Mahindra and an Isuzu pickup truck, a Nissan Patrol, and a school bus were vandalised.
A Toyota Vitz vehicle owned by the Senior House Mistress was also damaged.
According to the Minister, two vehicles belonging to teachers and four government vehicles have been destroyed so far.
He stated that the vehicles would be valued based on their condition, and the students responsible for the vandalism would pay for them.
He said that the government does not have the funds to purchase new pick-up trucks because the government set aside funds to purchase new vehicles for the school in 2020, despite the Covid-19 outbreak.
“They must pay for them. They must pay for whatever they have destroyed. I believe in fairness. Being fair does not imply what people say and ask you to put a human face on. Who among us here has an animal face? The person did not act like a human being, so which human face are you referring to?
Meanwhile, he has revealed that the final decision to reopen the school will be made jointly by the Regional Security Council and the Minister of Education, and will also be based on the report of the committee investigating the matter, as well as the time it takes to repair the damage they caused to school property.
