Residents of Fante New Town, Nyame Bekyere, New Ankasa, Awia-Futu Junction, and other areas in the Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region now have portable water to drink and use for other purposes for the first time in several years.
They claimed that they have been gathering water from a dugout well at daybreak, which has resulted in injuries and other difficulties because they trek to the dugout at both dawn and night.
Pupils go many kilometres to obtain water from these dugouts before attending school, resulting in everyday tardiness.
This was revealed during the commissioning of one of the mechanised boreholes at Fante New Town built by Dorcas Affo-Toffey, Member of Parliament for Jomoro.
The Fante New Town is one of 10 finished mechanised boreholes for the Jomoro Constituency people.
Job Pintil, the Odikro of Fante New Town, stated that if the MP had been unable to install the borehole for them, she would not have been able to return to the region.
He was hoping that the MP would do more for them for them to vote for her in the upcoming elections.
Odikro Job Pintil requests that the MP build the area’s lone road for them, as they, too, suffer from traffic congestion.
Dorcas Affo-Toffey, the MP, indicated that she was moved to do the initiative after hearing from residents during her campaign.
She stated that water is life, thus she took it upon herself to guarantee that the effort to save lives was completed as soon as possible.
When asked about the project’s cost, the MP stated that while she would not disclose the cost of one mechanised borehole or the full ten in other areas, a significant amount of money has been invested.
Madam Affo-Toffey urged residents to make borehole maintenance a priority because it is a source of income.
