Kindergarten 1 and 2 students at Compound Basic School in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region have been attending classes without permanent classrooms for the past two years.

This was due to the collapse of the two school structures that housed these students during a heavy downpour.
According to the school’s teachers, even before the two rooms collapsed, these structures were death traps for the students.
“The rain had destroyed the structure, making it a death trap for the children.” We realised it could lead to disaster, so we stopped the children,” Madam Adria Amani, one of the teachers, told the media.

These came to light when the Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, presented some building materials towards the reconstruction of these two rooms.
The items were 20 tons of iron rods and 20 bags of cement.
Madam Adria Amani noted that “we converted one of the classrooms and combined the KG 1 and 2 pupils to use as their classroom” since the two buildings collapsed two years ago.
She explained that the children were crammed into that small classroom, making teaching and learning difficult.
Madam Amani stated that the MP’s gesture has come at an opportune time because it will aid in the quick construction of the two rooms, allowing students to study in better classrooms.
The Odikro of Compound, Nana Ngwa, assured the MP that the building materials would be used for their intended purpose.

The Odikro expressed gratitude to the MP and urged her to assist in lobbying for the construction of the area’s deplorable roads.
Nana Ngwa urged NDC delegates to vote for her in the upcoming primaries in order for her to continue her good work for the people of Jomoro.
Dorcas Affo-Toffey also promised to help them if the materials are insufficient. She promised to work hard to bring development to the people of Jomoro and its environs.
