Former President John Dramani Mahama has been formally named the victor of the presidential primaries by the Electoral Commission (EC).
According to the EC’s official declared results, Mr. received 297, 603 votes, accounting for 98.9 per cent of all votes cast.
Kojo Bonsu, the former mayor of Kumasi, received 3, 181 votes representing 1.1 percent.
Dr. Kwabena Duffour’s votes were declared invalid because he had announced his resignation from the race.
Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Electoral Services for the Electoral Commission (EC) in the company of other officials from the electoral body were at the headquarters of the NDC to declare the results.
Dr. Kwabena Duffour officially pulled out from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential race.
According to him, his decision was based on his grievances with the processes surrounding the party’s upcoming primaries; especially the voters register.
He claimed the issues were not addressed although he had withdrawn his suit from the court.
Before the results were declared, Mr. Bonus conceded defeat.
He called the former president and congratulated him for winning the polls with a landslide victory.
In a Facebook post, the former Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu said he has called Mr. Mahama to concede defeat.
“I have placed a call to H.E. John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him for the landslide victory. Just as I’ve indicated throughout my campaign, regardless of the outcome of this election I’ll continue to serve the NDC party,” he said in a Facebook post.
