We prayed against Amenfi Central MP to lose primaries because he refused to give us Sallah Meat – Chief

It has emerged that the incumbent Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah lost the just-ended primaries to businesswoman Joana Cudjoe, over ‘Sallah Meat’.

Some Muslims in the constituency have revealed they prayed against the victory of the sitting MP because he refused to give them ‘Sallah Meat’.

The Zongo Chief of the area, Alhaji Sule, revealed on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that the MP killed four fat cows but refused to share them with all Muslims in the constituency.

According to him, the MP was selective in sharing the meat when the normal practise would have been for him to share it with all known Muslims as part of efforts to unite the area regardless of affiliation.

He claimed that the MP was the father figure for everyone in the constituency and that when it came time for Sallah, he should have made sure to share the meat with everyone. But he was picky and only shared the meat with a few people. This demonstrated that he was not someone who could unite us, so we prayed against his victory”.

We are not claiming that we cannot afford to purchase cows for the upcoming festive season. However, as the MP, you do not buy cows and select only a few people to share them with. That is divisive, and such a person should not be our MP,” he said.

Joana Cudjoe, the wife of popular artiste Andrew Keche, defeated Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central in the Western Region, in the recently concluded opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries held on Saturday, May 13, 2023.

Joana Gyan Cudjoe won with 756 votes, dethroning MP Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah, who came in second with 575 votes.

The remaining candidates, Daniel Appiah, Dr Karl Mark Arhin, and Elijah Jones Appiah, received 73, 39, and 2 votes, respectively.
