Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has ordered the creation of a seven-person special committee to look into claims made on a tape that the government intended to have Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, removed from his position to rig the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
The instruction of the Speaker came after a request by the Minority Caucus.
To ascertain the veracity and trustworthiness of the leaked recording, they demanded that a comprehensive investigation be conducted.
Three lawmakers from each side of the house will make up the committee, and they will be supported in their work by a technical specialist.
The names of the three members from both the Majority and Minority caucuses are expected to be disclosed within one week, as directed by the Speaker.
