On August 17, 2023, the Financial Division of the High Court in Accra will hear an application filed by the Special Prosecutor for confirmation of its decision to freeze seven bank accounts belonging to former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah.
According to reports, the OSP filed the case on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
It also wrote to two banks (names withheld) to “with immediate effect direct the freezing of the bank accounts and investments of Cecilia Abena Dapaah with your bank pending investigations into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences in respect of your customer.
This order takes immediate effect and shall apply to any account and financial assets held by the within-named persons with any branch of your bank.”
“Until this order is revoked or lapses, your bank shall not allow any transaction on the accounts and investments without the written authority of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.”
According to the OSP, the decision to freeze the account of the former minister was in accordance with Section 38 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959).
Madam Dapaah is being investigated for corruption and corruption-related charges after it was discovered that she had more than $1 million in her home.
Meanwhile, an Accra Circuit Court has remanded five of the seven accused persons in the Cecilia Dapaah case.
The court also granted bail to two lactating mothers to the tune of GH1 million each, with three sureties to be justified.
The two, Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30, are standing trial for their alleged involvement in the stealing of huge sums of money from the residence of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah.
The suspects allegedly stole the money and other valuables from Madam Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour, between July and October 2022.
