Joseph Osei Owusu, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Bekwai expressed disappointment over Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu’s resignation.
He praised him as a brilliant leader who the caucus should have remained with until the end of the 8th Parliament.
Mr. Kyei-Mensah has demonstrated exceptional hardworkingness in both his role and leadership as a Majority leader, he suggested.
Mr. Osei Owusu expressed disappointment but stated that the caucus will ensure a qualified replacement for his position to hold the forth peacefully.
The NPP caucus has denied rumours of Mr. Alexander Afenyo Markin being elected as the majority leader, stating that the focus will remain on achieving its objectives.
The lawmaker shot down the suggestion that the former leader, Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, was forced to step down.
Mr. Joseph Osei Owusu made these comments in a press interaction soon after the adjournment of Thursday’s proceedings.
He noted that the caucus would debate all of the implications of the new development in the coming months, especially because the presidential and legislative elections in 2024 are only 10 months away.
He stated that the caucus will examine the choice of a new leader and the consequences of a negative influence on the majority caucus.
He went on to say that they would consider a route that would keep them together rather than apart.
