Adib Saani, a security and foreign policy analyst, has shockingly disclosed that all one needs is GHC50 to hire the services of a landguard.
He averred that most of these landgaurds have nothing else to do; hence, when you are able to pay an individual GHC50, they are willing to do anything unlawful for you.
He was speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM.
He described the existence of landgaurds in the country as a threat to the stability and security of the state.
He said most of our politicians use them for their dirty political games because they are always available.
“The boys are always available, and if you want them to do anything illegal or engage in lawless activities on your behalf, they will do it for you. With just GHC50, you can get them to do anything unlawful for you. We know they exist; the police are aware they exist, and yet we have failed to deal with them.”
He also indicated that some people feel proud to be called land guards since, to them, it comes with some form of pride and prestige.
“To be a landguard is a source of pride. Some of them feel proud to be referred to as landgaurds, since it makes them feel powerful. People fear landgaurds, and they are also not afraid of anybody. They don’t fear the police because they know they cannot be punished. They are those that the politicians use in executing their political activities, so they feel so powerful.”
“But the bottom line is that we need to enforce the laws. We have laws, but their enforcement has become a major problem. If we are able to enforce the laws, it will help address the challenges.”
