Yaw Amoako, a 28-year-old ‘aboboyaa’ rider who went to break up a fight, was allegedly stabbed to death at Akyem Dwaso in the Eastern Region.
According to emerging details, the young man was in a room with his three-month-old fiancee when he heard a disturbance and went outdoors.
He then discovered that a young man he knew was being assaulted by a gang of young men, so he allegedly pulled out a belt and began beating the attackers with it.
In the process, the suspect, Nana Opoku, allegedly stabbed him three times, which led to his death.
Rainbow Radio’s Agya Dan described the events leading up to the incident on Nyankonton Mu Nsem, saying Nana Opoku travelled to another town for a funeral, where he met and expressed interest in a young woman.
While he was talking to the young woman, her fiancee appeared and confronted Nana Opoku about why he was talking to her.
The situation escalated, following which the young man allegedly called his friends, who came over and joined him in assualting Nana Opoku.
A week later, the young man who assaulted Nana Opoku also attended a ceremony in another community where he met Nana Opoku.
Nana Opoku confronted him about the previous incident.
He (Opoku) also called his friends and told them about his encounter.
They then pounced on the young man and started assaulting him.
It was at this point that Yaw Amoako heard the noise, stepped out, and saw that he knew the one who was being assaulted.
He then pulled his belt and started beating the young men with the hope of separating them.
In retribution, one of the young men, known as Kwesi, went home, returned with a knife, and allegedly handed it over to Nana Opoku, who stabbed the Yaw Amoako three times, resulting in his tragic death.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Kyebi Government Hospital Mortuary pending further investigations.
The key suspect, Nana Opoku, has been arrested and is currently on trial.
Kwesi and the other suspects are currently on the run.
