Never in our political history has a political party taken breaking the 8 more seriously than today – Analyst

Justice Siaw Mandela, a political expert, believes that the 2024 general elections, particularly the presidential contest, would be extremely dynamic.

The 2024 general elections, he said, would be dynamic in the sense that this is the first time a ruling party has taken the breaking of the eight-year jinx more seriously, while the opposition has a candidate returning to secure the seat after serving only one term previously.

The analyst explained that the level of seriousness the NPP has put into its campaign activities is remarkable and impressive.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he opined that the ruling party has demsontrated its readiness to break the eight at all costs.

This does not really happen in our political space, he added.

“The 2024 general election would be very dynamic and unique because it is the first time a political party has completed an eight-year term and is serious about breaking the eight-year jinx.” Never in Ghanaian politics has a sitting government taken breaking the 8-year jinx as seriously as it does today. Never in Ghanaian politics has a sitting president promised to ensure that his vice succeeds him, as President Akufo-Addo has done.”

He said by and large, the sitting president also has an urge over his main contender and would want to force his name into our history books as being the president of Ghana.

He said President Akufo-Addo has consistently expressed his readiness to hand over power to his vice president.

He stated that President Akufo-Addo’s support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a positive sign.

He said that in Ghana’s political history, Dr. Bawumia appears to be the only vice president to gain widespread support from the sitting president.

He noted that President Akufo-Addo’s support for Dr. Bawumia to take over from him is something we don’t usually witness in our political space.

This level of support, he stressed, will be positive and influence the chances of Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming presidential election.

“The support that Vice President Bawumia is receiving from President Akufo-Addo is a good sign. No vice president in history has received such widespread support from a president about to leave office. This will be advantageous for the Vice President.”
