The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam of Ghana, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, to seek his blessings and support for the fight against corruption.
The Special Prosecutor appealed to the National Chief Imam to encourage Muslims across Ghana to join the national effort to combat corruption, emphasising that the fight against corruption is a shared national responsibility and essential to safeguarding Ghana’s future.
Reflecting on his tenure, the Special Prosecutor acknowledged that the OSP has had to devote significant institutional attention to legal challenges concerning its mandate, independence, and operations, as well as challenges to his tenure as Special Prosecutor.
He stressed that the Office does not complain about litigation, noting that independent institutions must answer legal challenges.
However, with the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision affirming the constitutionality of the OSP Act and its prosecutorial framework, the Office is looking ahead with renewed focus.
The National Chief Imam blessed the Special Prosecutor and expressed his support for the fight against corruption, stressing that confronting corruption is vital to safeguarding the future of generations to come. He encouraged the Special Prosecutor to remain steadfast in the discharge of his mandate.
The Special Prosecutor was accompanied by Albert Akurugu, the Director of the Asset Recovery and Management Division and Acting Director of Investigations, and Sammy Darko, the Director of the Strategy, Research & Communication Division.
