Some Assin Central National Democratic Congress (NDC) members have cursed Electoral Commission (EC) officials and Assin Central New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate Godfred Nti Anewu.
The party members who invoked the cures accused the EC and the parliamenatry candidate of conspiring to bus unqualified people to transfer their votes to the area.
Members of the NDC think that the candidate, with the EC’s cooperation, transported people from Kasoa to vote in the Assin Central Constituency.
The angry party members slaughtered a sheep to invoke the river gods, Antoa Nyama and Betinsin, to deal with anybody who has the intention to rig the December general elections in the Assin Central constituency.
The Assin Central NDC Women’s Organiser, Agartha Yawson, led the group to invoke the curses against the NPP candidate.
She urged the gods to kill those who would rig the elections or have intentions to do so.
Aside from slaughtering the sheep, they also poured libations.
“If they have planned to bus people to this location to transfer their votes in order to rig the polls, please strike them down. When they are taken here by buses, do not allow them to arrive safely. Strike each of them down.
If the EC Commissioner, Jean Mensa, has also decided to rig the elections in favour of the NPP, we invoke any water god close to her to deal with her severely. I am calling on Antoa Nyama and all other gods to deal harshly with the people.”
Another party member said, “We do not have the power to use the police or the military to support the rigging process, but we have the gods, and we are asking them to deal ruthlessly with all those who have decided to rig the elections.
We pray that when they sit in their buses and are being transported to our area to start the process, may the gods deal with them. With these schnapps, eggs, and slaughtered sheep, we ask that they be dealt with ruthlessly.”
The Assin Central NDC Communications Officer, Abdoni Emmanuel, cautioned the Assin Central NPP leadership to desist from busing foreigners to vote in Assin Central or face their wrath.
He said the candidate has realised he will lose the elections and is therefore engaging in all manner of activities to help him win.
Meanwhile, the candidate has responded to the curses, saying that he has not done anything wrong and is not bothered.
He declared that “I have not wronged anyone to be afraid of the curses they have invoked against me. I would have been bothered if the things they accused me of were true. But I have not done any of the things they have accused me of.
Those who have done something wrong are the ones who will be concerned. I did not do anything wrong. If you cast curses on me and I have done the things you accuse me of, I will be afflicted. But I’ve done nothing wrong, therefore I’m not afraid of the curses.”
