The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamenatry candidate for Awutu Senya East Constituency, Naa Koryoo Okunor, has been arrested and detained at the Cantonments Police Station.
This was disclosed by the National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi.
He has therefore called on party supporters to throng the Cantonments Police Station and demand her immediate release.
“All NDC supporters should join us at the Cantonments Police station for us to solidarity with our sister and demand her release now. Enough of the oppression and harassment of NDC figures by the …Police Service. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!” he wrote in a statement dated June 7, 2024.
“Her offense is simply that a weapon (gun) was found in her car. The said weapon is registered in her name. All the necessary registration documents have been submitted to the Police.
Unlike, Hawa Koomson who in 2020 actually fired a gun at a registration center, Naa Koryoo has not fired any gun or weapon. Yet, the …Police service is hellbent on detaining her, ” Sammy Gyamfi added.
The parliamentary candidate was arrested last week, along with Mustapha Mohammed and Abdul Aziz Musah, in connection with violent fights at the voter transfer facility.
The two were apprehended while driving a Honda CRV saloon with the registration number GX-2044-19 near the Electoral Commission (EC) Office in Ofaakor.
They were arrested alleging possession of a firearm that was linked to a stabbing involving Ato Koomson, the son of the current MP and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson.
