Dr. John Kofi Halm, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Trobu constituency parliamentary candidate, has stated that his charity organisation launched efforts to assist people in starting egg businesses, but the bulk of the recipients failed.
He stated that the purpose was to provide a source of income for women by providing entrepreneurship training and developing an egg business for them.
However, several of individuals who profited from this campaign did not take it seriously, preferring to consume the eggs rather than sell them for profit.
He believes that teaching people how to fish is more essential than simply handing them fish.
He disclosed this in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM.
“We recently implemented a support system and created a chance to establish charcoal enterprises and provision shops. We also started an egg business and imported more than 100 crate of eggs, but the black man’s thinking is weird. After giving the women over 100 crate of eggs, they kept them in their apartments and ate them rather than selling them to make profits. I do not know why they did that. This was an opportunity for them to sell the eggs, profit, and grow. This is the entire issue. However, I will not give up and will instead put in place a monitoring system to ensure that these who are still selling eggs expand.”
He also promised to establish an MP support officer where people can apply for support to establish their own businesses if he is elected.
The physician said he has over so many years used charity organisations to help the less privileged in society by providing them with free medical care and payment of school fees for brilliant but needy people.
On his plan to go to parliament, he stated that unemployment, poor roads, and the granting of scholarships were among the issues he would like to address.
“Addressing these issues will take centre stage. MPs do not construct roads, but if you were elected as an MP, you must lobby to get the terrible roads in your area fixed. The other thing is to take steps to generate job opportunities for the unemployed. The 24-hour economy can help to produce more jobs. It will provide incentives to existing businesses that participate in the policy.
As the owner of a clinic in the area, it will allow me to expand and hire more people in the constituency.I would also petition the Scholarship Secretariat to obtain scholarships for talented but underprivileged students.”
