Gospel musician Scott Evans believes that Ghanaians in the music business lack knowledge or an understanding of the industry.
The musician opined that because of the lack of understanding of how the sector should operate, people are jacks of all trades and masters of none.
He said that compared to other justifications where music is broad and has people playing different roles, in Ghana, one person is seen doing everything at a time.
“Ghanaians don’t understand the music business. Music is broad. People who write music are even wealthier than musicians. It is only in Ghana that we combine everything. We don’t really understand the music business.
There are people who are working for record labels, and their job is to write songs for musicians. Those who understand the music business in other countries know that whoever plays a role in the sector has a percentage for the work they do,” he said.
He made the comments in answer to a question about whether he was willing to perform songs written by other writers.
Although he currently wrote his own songs, the musician said he was prepared to receive songs from other writers.
However, he stressed that he will not perform just any song due of his faith.
Scott Evans stated that his style of music is different and is not the type that would want to do the sorrowful type of music.
He told Sokoohemaa Kukua in an interview on the Midmorning show that he has identified his sound and self and will only perform songs written by others that align with his faith and style.
When asked if Ghanaians have accepted his style of music, the musician responded that it is all about time but added that he has made significant progress since he started professional music.
He said, rating his acceptance by Ghanaians, he will peg it at 60 percent.
“From where I sit, I think I have made significant progress. So I can think I have been accepted, and my acceptance rating, I will say, is 60 percent.”
